AgriX brings smart irrigation and paddy automation to Ampara (அம்பாறை), one of Sri Lanka's largest paddy districts. We sense field water depth, send canal and turnout scheduling alerts, and automate pumps on lift-irrigated fields — all engineered to keep running on weak signal and through power cuts.

The problem
Problems farmers face in Ampara
Timing water around the canal
Most Ampara paddy is grown under the Gal Oya scheme, fed by the Senanayake Samudra reservoir. Water comes on a schedule you do not fully control, so the hard part is matching your fields to when the turnout actually runs — not just opening a valve.
Saving water in Yala
In the dry Yala season, water is tight and losses hurt. Over-watering one field can leave another short. Knowing the real depth in each field lets you spread a limited supply further.
Lift-irrigated and far fields
Fields pumped up from a channel or well mean someone has to be at the pump at the right time. On scattered plots that is wasted trips, late watering and fuel or power burned running a pump longer than needed.
Vegetable and banana plots need different water
Alongside paddy, many Ampara families grow vegetables and banana that want little-and-often watering, not flooding. Running them by hand competes for the same time and labour as the paddy.
What AgriX does
How AgriX helps in Ampara
One system engineered around your fields, water source and crops — not a one-size kit.
Field water-level sensing
Sensors report the water depth in each paddy field so you can see, from your phone, which fields are low and which are holding — instead of walking every bund to check.
Canal and turnout scheduling alerts
Set your fields against the canal supply and AgriX reminds you when to prepare, open and close, so watering lines up with when water is actually available.
Pump automation for lift fields
Pumps start and stop on a schedule or on field need, with a manual override always at the pump. No more standing by a channel to catch the right moment.
Drip automation for vegetables and banana
Vegetable and banana plots run on drip by zone, watered little and often on a schedule or on soil moisture, separate from the paddy cycle.
Hardware
Built to work offline and on weak signal
Fields have weak signal, power cuts and old pumps. The controller runs on its own at the farm, so watering never waits for a mobile connection.
Field controller that stores its schedule and runs offline, so watering continues when the mobile signal drops
Water-depth and soil-moisture sensors sized to paddy and to vegetable plots
Pump and valve control, zone by zone, with a manual override at the controller
Low-power GSM or LoRa links for fields with weak coverage
Solar power option for pumps and controllers away from mains
Getting started
Start with one zone
You do not have to automate the whole farm at once. Begin with one field or pump, see it work, then add more.
Start with one zone — a single field or pump — so you see how it works on your own land before spending on more.
We reuse the pumps, pipes and tanks you already have wherever they are fit for automation, instead of replacing everything.
Pricing depends on your fields, water source and how many zones you automate. We quote a specific farm after looking at it — we do not publish a one-size price, and we will not invent one.
Questions
AgriX in Ampara: FAQ
Does AgriX work with the Gal Oya canal schedule in Ampara?
Yes. AgriX is designed around major-irrigation paddy. You set your fields against the canal supply and it sends scheduling alerts for when to prepare, open and close, and senses the water depth in each field.
Can AgriX automate a pump on a lift-irrigated field?
Yes. Pumps can start and stop on a schedule or on field need, with a manual override always available at the pump. This suits fields lifted from a channel or well.
Will it keep working when the mobile signal is weak?
Yes. The field controller stores its schedule and safety limits and runs offline. The app shows the latest readings again when the connection returns.
Can I start small?
Yes. We recommend starting with one field or one pump, then adding zones and sensors once you have seen it work on your own land.
Do you serve farms across the Ampara District?
Yes. We are based in Kalmunai, in the Ampara District, and serve farms across the district with on-site visits.
Share your land, water source and crops in the Ampara District. We will propose an AgriX system sized to your farm — and be honest about what is ready and what is still research.
